Chapter 52 - Milo's POV

The sky was turning soft shades of pink and lavender as dawn crept over the horizon. The bonfire was just a bed of smoldering embers now, and most of the cast had started drifting back toward the trailers, wrapped in blankets or leaning on each other.
But I stayed behind a little longer, pacing the beach with the early morning tide washing over my shoes. The salt air smelled crisp, but all I could taste was the tension lingering from the game—and the way Julian's questions had hung in the air.
I kept replaying my confession in my head: the words, clipped and careful, but real enough to break the dam I'd been building for years.
"I've been in a long-term relationship."
No details. No names. Just a fact.
And yet, it felt like the first crack in a wall built on years of secrecy.
I'd expected relief afterward, or maybe freedom. But instead, I felt more exposed than ever. Like I'd just opened a window in a storm, and I wasn't sure if the wind would soothe or shatter me.
Meg's eyes had found mine so many times during the night—each glance a silent conversation. I knew she was just as scared as I was. We'd been hiding this for a decade, playing best friends on the surface while everything underneath burned.
The truth was, we weren't sure how much longer we could keep it up. The secret was like a live wire between us, crackling louder each time someone came close to noticing.
Julian was definitely getting close. His quiet observations, his little tests... I could feel it like static.
But I also saw him push away the theories. He wanted it to be something else. Because the truth was complicated, messy. And if it was true, it would change everything.
I let the tide pull at my feet as I leaned back, watching the sky bloom brighter.
I didn't know how this was going to end.
But one thing was certain: the breaking point was coming.
And soon.
